…As Assembly Members Take Back Impeachment Notice .
Rivers State Governor , Siminalayi Fubara, has kept to the first part of the 8- pronged resolution by withdrawing his case against the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martins Amaewhule at the State High Court , Isiokpo in Ikwerre Local Government Area of the state.
The move comes less than 48 hours after President Bola Tinubu brokered the peace deal between Fubara and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike
The duo were at daggers drawn over perceived political differences that engulfed the State, creating a theatre of war that lingered for months.
But the timely intervention of the president and the understanding shown by the warring factions to sign the peace accord saved the state and its people.
On Tuesday, Governor Fubara,who leaves a calm and humble disposition wherever he goes, told the academia of PAMO University that he would abide by the resolutions of the accord saying that nothing is greater than allowing peace to reign in the state
On Wednesday, the governor, true to his words, withdrew his case against the Amaewhule- led House of Assembly who planned to impeach him.
At the resumed hearing on Wednesday,Senior Advocate of Nigeria, Ferdinand Orbih, informed the court that he had the instruction of his client, (Governor Fubara) to withdraw the matter from court following the agreement reached by the two warring parties in the state.
However,Counsel to the defendants, D. O. Okoro, SAN, informed the court that he was yet to be given instructions by his clients to withdraw the matter.
After hearing the arguments of both counsels,the presiding Judge, Justice Ben Whyte, directed that the defense counsel confer with his client in respect of the recent development as submitted by counsel to the plaintiff.
The judge, thereafter, adjourned to the 31st of January 2024 for a report of settlement.
The governor had approached the court to secure an order, restraining the Amaewhule-led faction of the State Assembly from impeaching him.
Earlier ,the Amaewhule -led Assembly had also withdrawn its impeachment notice against Governor Fubara.
The lawmakers 27 out of 31 had complained about the governor withholding their entitlements and defected to the All Progressives Congress APC citing division at the National level of the Peoples Democratic Party PDP.
