Reports that the Rivers State Governor, Siminilayi Fubara has sworn – in Edison Ehie as his new Chief of Staff is not correct according to a Chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party who spoke to current matters under the condition of anonymity on Thursday.
Ehie, was the majority leader of the 10th Rivers State House of Assembly.
He assumed the role of Speaker leading a faction of 4 members in the 31 member Legislature at the start of the political crisis between the governor and his predecessor, Nyesom Wike.
Ehie, who represented Ahoada East Constituency ll in the Assembly last week reportedly wrote a letter addressed to the Independent National Electoral Commission INEC where he stated that he was resigning from office as Speaker and representational duties of his constituency in the House.
But the content of the letter days after ,incurred the wrath of the Assembly who, through the clerk clarified that Ehie was never elected Speaker and that the purported letter was written to mislead the public .
Ehie’s purported appointment as Chief of Staff rent the air less than 24 hours after his resignation letter went viral on Sunday.
However, current matters gathered that Ehie was sworn in last night at Government House Port Harcourt after he, along with Rivers State delegation led by the governor came back from a visit to Bayelsa Governor, Duoye Diri in Sampou, his home town. But the party chieftain countered the report saying ” It is not correct. Nothing of swearing -in took place last night”
A viral video on Wednesday backed by a new song ” Dey your Dey”made popular by the political conflict entitled ” Ehie’s swearing in had chieftains of the party and supporters dancing to the music. Till now,no official announcement has been made on his appointment or swearing -in by the state government.
