The Management of the National Hospital,Abuja on Thursday cleared the controversy surrounding referral of popular Nollywood actor ,Zack Orji to a private hospital.
A statement by the Spokesman of the hospital,Tayo Haastrup said at no time did the hospital referred the actor to a private hospital saying that Orji who was brought into the facility on New Year Eve was taken to the ICU where he was stabilised and moved to the ENT and later,to the Orthopaedic ward where he was prepared for surgery but his relations took him away after signing a form ” Leaving Against Medical Advice on January 1,2024.
The statement reads “The attention of the National Hospital Abuja has been drawn to a publication insinuating that the Apex hospital referred the Nigerian Actor, Zack Orji, to a private hospital in Abuja.
“To set the record straight, the actor, who was brought in on New Year’s Eve and admitted to the intensive care unit, was stabilized by National Hospital Abuja and moved to the ENT ward.
“Later in the day, he was transferred to the orthopedic ward, where our surgeons began preparing him for surgery.
“However, the relatives of the patient signed a form “Leaving Against Medical Advice” on January 1, 2024. This thwarted all preparations for his surgery.
“Nevertheless, the Management of National Hospital Abuja wishes him a speedy recovery.” the statement added.
The veteran actor was said to have slumped and unconscious and taken to the National Hospital on Sunday,31 st December 2023.
While at the Hospital, the first lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu and the wife of the Vice president,Mrs Nana Shettima visited the ailing actor and called for prayers for him and reportedly offered to clear his hospital bill
