Justice Bolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja has ordered the remand of five Port Harcourt-based men, facing terrorism charges, in Kuje Prison in the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja.
Those remanded are Chime Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod,
The defendants are to be in prison custody until February 2, when their bail applications will be considered.
The suspects were arraigned for alleged involvement in terrorism offenses, including the invasion, vandalism and destruction of the Rivers State House of Assembly Complex in the heat of the political crisis between the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT Nyesom Wike and his successor , Governor Siminilayi Fubara in October last year.
They were also charged with the killing of Superintendent of Police SP Bako Agbashim and five police informants in a community. In the Ahoada East Local Government Area of the state.
Further allegations by the Federal Government represented by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Egbetokun as plaintiff, revealed that the suspects utilized various cult groups, such as Supreme Viking Confraternity, Degbam, Iceland, and Greenland, to unleash violence on the state.
However, the defendants, including Hon Edison Ehie, the former Majority leader and factional Speaker pleaded not guilty to the charges
Consequently, the trial judge has set February 2 for the hearing of bail applications and ordered the remand of the defendants’ in Kuje Prison .
