The Chairman of Bible Society of Nigeria ( BSN) Rivers / Bayelsa Area,Mr Omoni Ayotamuno has called on Christians in Bayelsa State to seriously consider supporting the BSN to deliver on its mandate to translate the Bible into more Nigerian Languages.
Ayo-Tamuno, made the call during the Founders Day Celebration of BSN at the First Baptist Church, Ovom Yenagoa.
He said “For years, the activities of the society have been 99.9 per cent concentrated in Rivers State, which is not good enough, bearing in mind, the society is made up of two states, Bayelsa and Rivers “.
,”The problem might have been that the people of Bayelsa are not adequately informed, hence the current move to visit churches in Bayelsa State “.
The Chairman commended the Pastor in charge of the First Baptist Church Yenagoa, the Reverend Oyewumi Oladapo Ph.D for his support and encouragement given to the society which he said was an indication of acceptance and hand of fellowship.
Ayo-Tamuno stressed the need for members of the church to enroll as members of the society, saying that “it is unacceptable to note no member of the Church is a registered member and hoped that the narrative would change after the visit”.
The Bible Society of Nigeria was founded on February 8, 1966 and had translated the Bible into 27 Nigerian Languages, with 10 ongoing projects in various stages of completion.
Speaking later, the Pastor in charge of the Church, the Reverend Oyewumi Oladapo assured the society that the Church would support the society to succeed in its programmes.
Reverend Oladapo further assured that he would encourage members to enroll as registered members of the society.
The highlight of the occasion was the presentation of membership form to a former member of both Rivers and Bayelsa States Executive Councils, Engineer Numiopre Wills and BSN literatures to the Pastor.
