Controversial Islamic Cleric, Sheikh Ahmad Gumi has been invited for questioning over comments on bandits’ activities, the Federal Government said on Monday.
According to the Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, the Kaduna based cleric has been invited for questioning over his comments on the activities of bandits in the country.
Addressing journalists at the State House, Abuja.,Idris said Gumi is not above the law, adding that the government has deemed it necessary to invite him for questioning.
Gumi had over the years sought the Federal Government ‘s permission to negotiate with bandits.
Recently, he called on the Tinubu government to negotiate with the bandits and not to follow the example of former President, Muhammadu Buhari .
Gumi, a strong advocate of suspects of terrorism financing ,has not also been seen in pictures with some bandits on many occasions but even revealed how terrorists are funded.
The Islamic cleric had also opposed the declaration of bandits as terrorists saying it won’t end their aggression.
