Embattled former Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN, Godwin Emefiele has been remanded by a High Court, in Ikeja Lagos,over 26- fresh charges bordering on abuse of office
Emefiele is to remain in the custody of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission EFCC until 11th April when the court will rule on his bail application
Emefiele is standing trial before Justice Rahman Ishodi following charges preferred against him by the EFCC last week.
The former apex bank governor is being prosecuted for allegedly abusing his office and allocating billions of dollars to himself. Between 2022 and 2023.
The judge remanded him till the next adjourned date, Thursday, April 11 pending the determination of his bail application.
Justice Oshodi also ordered the remand of Emefiele’s co-defendant Henry Omoile at the Kirikiri Prison pending the court’s ruling.
Emefiele was in the custody of the Department of State Service DSS for more than 2 months after he was suspended from office by President Bola Tinubu on June 9,2023.
After his release by the DSS the EFCC rearrested him on a two – count charge which was struck out by an Abuja High Court.
