A three – member panel of the Competition and Consumer Protection Tribunal CCPC on Monday restrained Entertainment Service Provider,MultiChoice from increasing its Subscriptions it planned to effect from May 1.
The panel presided over by Saratu Shafi gave the interim order following an exparte motion moved by Ejiro Awaritoma,counsel for the applicant, Festus Onifade.
Onifade had in a suit on April 29 against MultiChoice Nig Ltd and the Federal Competition and Consumer Protection Commission FCCPC requested an order of interim injuction restraining the first defendant ( MultiChoice) whether by themselves,her privies ,assigns by whatever name called from going ahead with impending price increase schedule to take effect from 1st May 2024., pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.
” An order restraining the first defendant from taking any step(s) that may negatively affect the rights of the claimant and other consumers in respect of the suit pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice “
Consequently, the tribunal restrained the first defendant from taking any action that would infringe the right of the claimant and other consumers.
” The first defendant is hereby restrained from taking any step (s,) that may negatively affect the rights of the claimants and other consumers in respect of the suit pending the hearing and determination of the Motion on Notice.” The Tribunal Ordered.
