President Bola Tinubu has suspended the implementation of the Cybersecurity Levy of the Central Bank of Nigeria directing’ banks to charge 0.5 on some electronic transactions in the country.
The president has also ordered a review of the controversial levy.
Current matters understands that the decision to suspend the implementation of the cybersecurity levy was taken on Thursday following the anger that greeted the announcement by the CBN
The announcement of the Cybersecurity Levy had drawn the ire of the organised Labour and other citizens who called for the immediate withdrawal of the decision.
Also,the House of Representatives directed the CBN to stop the implementation of the Levy
The House argued that the CBN ‘s directive was “ambiguous” and needed to be clarified.
Proponents of the Levy had said that it would impact National security and improve the economy.
However,Current matters gathered that the president would announce the deferment of the implementation of the policy this week.
