A Port Harcourt High Court has restrained Martins Amaewule and twenty four others loyal to Nyesom Wike, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory FCT from parading and holding out themselves as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
The order followed a suit marked PHC/ 1512/ CS/2024 filed by Victor Oko Jumbo, Sokari Goodboy Sokari and Orubienimigha Adolphus Timothy against the 25 lawmakers.
Giving an order of interlocutory injunction, the presiding Judge, Justice Charles Wali also barred the group ‘from meeting / sitting at the auditorium of the State House House of Assembly quarters. located at off Aba Road , Port Harcourt or at any other place whatsoever to purport to carry out the legislative duty of the Rivers State House of Assembly , their legislative seats having been declared vacant pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit “
The judge also restrained the 26 – 28 defendants, the Governor , Attorney General and the Chief Justice of the state” from dealing with, interfacing , accepting any resolutions, bills and / or howsoever, interacting with the Amaewule group in their purported capacities as members of the Rivers State House of Assembly.their legislative seats having been declared vacant with effect from 13th December,2023. Pending the hearing and determination of the substantive suit “
The case was adjourned to July 1st for mention.
