The Organised Labour, Nigeria Labour Congress NLC and the Trade Union Congress TUC have suspended their indefinite strike action which began on Monday.
The strike crippled activities in both public and private domains as workers shut down operations
The Labour unions are demanding an upward increase of minimum wage that corresponds with the current economic situation. They demanded a N494 national minimum wage but the government proposed N60,000 .
However, a resolution was reached at the end of a meeting between the leadership of the NLC and the TUC with Federal Government officials led by Senator George Akume on Monday evening.
Part of the resolution stated the Federal Government’s commitment to paying above the N60,000 and the unions reciprocated that they would reach out to their chapters to inform them about the agreement reached.
On Tuesday morning, the unions directed that the strike was still on as more unions joined.
But, the leadership of the TUC and NLC told newsmen about noon that they have resolved to suspend the strike for a week after their joint extraordinary National Executive Council meeting in Abuja
According to an official of one of the unions”,a communiqué is being drafted and will be released after a meeting with the government team “
