The Court of Appeal Port Harcourt Division, has ordered the maintenance of status quo in the Rivers State House of Assembly pending the hearing and determination of the suit filed by Speaker ,Rt Hon. Victor Oko Jumbo ,,Hon. Sokari Goodboy Sokari,Hon Orubienimigha Adolphus Timothy, The Governor of Rivers State, The Attorney – General , the Hon Chief Judge of Rivers State against 26 pro – Wike lawmakers led by Rt. Hon Martins Amaewule .
In a ruling delivered by Justice Hamma Akawu Bakka on Friday,June 14, on behalf of a three – member panel of justices including Justice Jimi Olukayode Bada and Justice Balkisu Bello Aliyu.the court held that the Justice Wali ‘s order of May 10 declaring the seats of the lawmakers vacant and barring them from parading as members of the State House of Assembly remains.
The Court ordered all parties in the matter to maintain the status quo and refrain from hostilities until the matter is determined.
The Rivers State High Court had on May 10, granted an Interim injunction restraining the pro – Wike lawmakers from parading themselves as members of the state House of Assembly.
The interim injunction declared the seats of the lawmakers vacant pending the hearing and determination of the case.
