The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp says operatives of the command prevented an attack by bandits on its headquarters in Lafia, Nasarawa state
According to a statement issued by the command’s Public Relations Officer, Jerry Victor, the bandits in large numbers armed with weapons,invaded the command’s headquarters, on Monday morning shooting randomly with intent to scare residents and enter the premises while others took positions around the building .
But ” the operatives of the NSCDC swiftly responded by opening fire on the hoodlums whose mission was to release some high – profile suspected criminals including informants of kidnappers in the custody of the command ” the PRO said
He however, clarified that no casualty was recorded during the incident adding that normalcy has returned to the area.
Nasarawa,a border state to the Federal Capital Territory FCT Abuja has lately been on the front pages for news bordering on bandits activities, kidnapping and killing.
The state’s endowment with a variety of solid minerals including gemstones and industrial minerals such as gypsum,barites, gold,columbite, kaolin and marble makes it a bandits haven.
It would be recalled that unidentified gunmen on February 1,2024, killed three persons and destroyed properties worth millions of naira in the Katakpa and Okudu communities in Toto Local Government Area of the state which prompted the army to deploy its personnel to the location.
But while the Army was keeping the peace , bandits stormed the area allegedly killed three soldiers and two members of a vigilante group.
