US President,Joe Biden has announced he is withdrawing from the presidential race after mounting pressure from members of his political party, to step down.
Biden has been receiving backlash from top Democrats after his poor performance at the CNN presidential debate in June.
Former President,Barrack Obama,Speaker, Nancy Pelosi and at least 35 members of Congress had urged the president to step down.
The latest high – ranking lawmaker to call Biden to step aside was Senator Joe Manchin ( Independent,West Virginia) formerly a Democrat but perceived critic of Biden’s policy.
Biden has endorsed Kamala Harris as replacement although current matters gathered that the democrats are divided on the choice of Biden’s replacement. While the Governors of California, Kentucky and Pennsylvania are likely favoured in some quarters, others feel the baton should move to Kamala Harris. However, others are of the view that the United States is not ripe for a female presidency just yet, claiming that her Asian and African roots would be a challenge for her to fly.
