At least seven soldiers were killed when a landmine exploded under a Nigerian military vehicle in a northeastern area where Islamic State-affiliated jihadists are active.
According to Anti – Jihadist militia sources, on Friday, the soldiers were heading for Kukawa early Thursday when their vehicle drove over an improvised explosive device.
It was gathered that “All the seven soldiers in the van died in the explosion at Bawarti village,”
The Islamic State West Africa Province (ISWAP) is said to be behind the incident.
For more than a decade,Boko Haram terrorists and ISWAP Jihadists have been terrorising the North East region of the country, killing, maiming and displacing residents from their homes.
In January 2022, Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State said that two Local Government Areas were still under the control of Boko Haram terrorists.
However,it was not immediately clear whether efforts by the government to rid the state of terrorists has helped in any way to reclaim the two local government areas under terrorists control.
