
Protesters under the hashtag # EndBadGovernance who gathered at the Berger Round about in Abuja on Friday were dispersed with teargas cannisters by operatives of the Nigerian Police Force.
Current matters reports that while normal activities have begun in some areas in the Federal Capital Territory, major markets and banks and shopping plazas are under lock and key for fear of vandalisation.
On Thursday, protesters restricted to the MKO Abiola stadium rejected the order and marched on the streets towards the three arms zone housing the Eagles Square, the Federal Secretariat,the National Assembly, The Supreme Court and the Presidential Villa but the police were on ground to ward off trouble makers.
In Port Harcourt, some of the protesters marched through the old Port Harcourt township to meet others who converged Infront of the Federal Secretariat.
The Commissioner of Police, Olatunji Disu addressed the protesters thanking them for their peaceful conduct . He said the cooperation he received from the Rivers protesters was first he would receive from states he had served.
On day one of the protest, current matters reports that the State secretariat which opened only its entry gate,had no fewer than 4 vehicles in the complex. The crowd of workers visibly seen on normal working days were conspicuously absent. The streets were empty, Key public institutions such as the Courts, Police Stations and Government House were barricaded by police armoured tanks and personnel while Superstores like Hypercity also had the presence of stern security men in front of them.
In Lagos , the Commissioner of Police,CP Adegoke Fayoade told protesters that they would provide adequate security and protection for them “that’s why we are here” but warned that the police would not hesitate to arrest those found wanting in conduct .
Meanwhile, Northern states – Jigawa,Borno and Gombe have declared 24 – hour curfew following infiltration of bad elements into the protest
According to the Commissioner of Information,Borno State, Ahmed Tar,the State government had to declare an indefinite curfew because the process was hijacked by non- state actors leading to killings.
