The Ministry of Sports Development says it will ensure that Nigeria rewrites the history of medal drought at the just concluded Paris Olympics Games in the next Olympics scheduled to hold in Los Angeles, United States of America.
The Spokesperson of the Ministry,Kehinde Ajayi made this known in a statement on Monday.
It would be recalled that Team Nigeria failed to secure a place on the medal table dominated by the United States, China, Japan and others, a situation said to be linked to infighting between officials of the Ministry and the Olympics committee, as well as Nepotism and lack of interest and Motivation by the Government in Sports Development.
But the Ministry has assured of its readiness to restore the nation’s sports glory .
The spokesperson said preparations for the next Olympics will “start now”
According to Ajayi,“The journey in Paris has inspired us as a Ministry to start now for the next games coming up in Los Angeles 2028, so we can rewrite history and show the world we are the giant of the black race,”
“We understand the winning mentality of Nigerians and how disappointed we are towards our outing, but I assure you the leadership of Sen. John Owan Enoh is ready to turn the tides around and restore our sporting glory.”
Ajayi thanked President Bola Tinubu for the timely release of funds and commended the coaches, technical directors , other officials and athletes for their efforts .
“We thank President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his swift approval and release of funds, it shows that we have a President who listens and knows what is best for our young athletes.
“We thank the coaches, technical director, medics, officials, and athletes who have inspired the next generation with their performances. The end of every race is the beginning of a new one, the Ministry of Sports Development calls on everyone to embrace and live in the culture of peace every day so we can make Nigeria great again.”
