The Bauchi Traditional Council has stripped Senator Shehu Umar Buba of his title ‘Majidadin Bauchi’ over alleged disrespect to the Peoples Democratic Party PDP,Governor Bala Mohammed.
Buba is a member of the All Progressives Congress APC, representing Bauchi South Senatorial District in the National Assembly .
The Senator during the #EndBadDovernance protest, criticised governor Mohammed over comments against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ‘s address to the nation where he gave reason for ending the fuel subsidy regime and what his administration has done so far, to alleviate hardship in the country.
Governor Mohammed had described Tinubu’s broadcast ” as empty , and rather escalating the whole situation “
But the APC Senator tackled the governor saying he ( Mohammad) and the president are not in the same category.
He accused Mohammed” of being responsible for hardship in the state, alleging that the governor shortchanged the people by not distributing 70 trucks of guinea corn, 70 trucks of fertiliser and 20 trucks of rice donated by the federal government”
The Special Adviser on Media to Governor Mohammed, Mukhtar Gidado however, denied the allegations, explaining
“The donations are being processed for distribution. A committee, chaired by the Emir of Jama’are, has been established to oversee this,”
In a swift reaction, the Bauchi Emirate in a letter dated August 14, 2023, and addressed to Senator Buba,,announced that it had withdrawn the lawmaker’s title.
The letter signed by Nasiru Musa on behalf of the Emirate’s Secretary.said the decision to derobe the Senator was taken during a meeting of the Emirate Council chaired by the Emir of Bauchi.
According to the letter, the traditional council deliberated the Senator Umar’s issue against the governor and specifically accused the Senator of disrespecting and humiliating the Bauchi State governor,an action it said violated the culture and teachings of the Emirate.
