Hundreds of destitutes, mentally deranged and wanderers have now been rescued off the streets of Port Harcourt City and Obio/Akpor Local Government Areas by the Rivers State government.
The Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Social Welfare and Rehabilitation, Dr Justina Jumbo said the exercise is aimed at ridding the streets of Port Harcourt of all environmental nuisance.
She said the mentaly deranged, wanderers and destitute will be rehabilitated and repatriated to their various states.
Dr Jumbo further assured that the exercise will be sustained in line with the resolve of Governor Siminalayi Fubara’s concern for the welfare and well-being of residents of Rivers State.
Our Correspondent reports that the rescued individuals were taken to the Rivers State Rehabilitation Center in Iriebe ,Obio/Akpor LGA for commencement of rehabilitation.
Some onlookers cheered the ministry officials who carried out the raid.
Some residents who spoke to our correspondent urged the state government to sustain the tempo.
