The Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency (NIHSA) has issued another alert to those living around River Niger and River Benue banks.
In a statement on Friday, The Director General NIHSA, Umar Mohammed asked residents to relocate immediately to safe locations saying the steady rise in the water levels of river Niger and Benue has reached the red mark
He advised Nigerians to heed the Agency’s warning, by doing the needful- clearing their drainages, and gutters as well as making way for water run-off.
The DG emphasised that the prolonged rain that has persisted across the nation has caused some of the devastating flash floods.
He reiterated NIHSA’s unwavering commitment to regular monitoring of the water levels of the major rivers and tributaries, issuing flood warnings and alerts.
“NIHSA is pro-actively in synergy with emergency response agencies and the Media. It is an effort to help save lives and property of Nigerians to abate flood impact, enhance food security, promote national resilience to flood thereby fostering sustainable water resources management,” The DG said.
