The Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission RSIEC, Justice Adolphus Enebeli Rtd, has dismissed information in media circles about his resignation as spurious and mischievous.
Dispelling the information, the Commissioner in charge of Civic Education and Public Affairs, Pastor Tamunotonye Profit Tobins said that it was calculated to mislead the public. He reiterated that the election” will hold” as scheduled and that sensitive materials have already arrived at the 23 local government areas for the exercise.
Tobins further stated that the election is in line with the Supreme Court’s order on RSIEC to ensure the conduct of local government election.. He added that the RSIEC law of 2018 and the judgement of Justice I.P.C Igwe of September 4 along with the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria empower RSIEC to conduct the election.
Several political parties are contesting for offices of Chairman, Councillors into the councils to give adequate representation to the people at the grassroots.
