Bandits on Saturday blocked the ever- busy Funtua -Tsafe road in Zamfara state and abducted scores of travellers
The bandits also reportedly shot the Director General of the Zamfara State Community Protection Guards (CPG), General Lawal B. Muhammad (rtd).during the attack at Kucheri village in Tsafe local government area of Zamfara state.
It was gathered that the general is receiving treatment in a medical facility in Gusau, the state capital.

Earlier, Channels TV quotes the Police Spokesman in Zamfara ,ASP Yazid Abubakar as saying that,
“The incident happened this afternoon. The bandits blocked the road and started shooting at the commuters, they kidnapped some of them,” .
” The command in collaboration with other security agencies are working hand in hand to make sure the kidnapped victims are rescued.” Abubakar said.
Activities of bandits are regular features in communities in the state.
There is a large presence of armed bandits in forests in the state reported to have 60 percent of Nigeria ‘s Solid Minerals deposits.
The minerals include gold , iron ore,copper ,tantalite and manganese.
However,Gold ,a noble metal is reportedly being harvested by prominent indigenes, foreigners and arrned men.
The state strategically located in the North West and borders the Republic of Niger to the North has become an epicenter of abduction and killing.
On September 21,2023, Bandits abducted 50 students of the Federal University Gusau.
Again,mid October of the same year, Bandits abducted two students of the varsity.

Traditional rulers are also not spared by the growing population of outlaws.
On March 21,2022. Bandits killed the village head and other residents in the Ganar Kiyawa village.

In August,2024, security forces neutralised at least 37 bandits but their activities seem to exacerbate.
