No fewer than three persons sustained injuries after a Compressed Natural Gas, CNG-powered vehicle exploded at NIPCO gas station in Benin, City, the Edo State capital.
The incident reportedly happened Thursday morning at the gas station located along the Benin-Auchi road in Uhunmwonde Local Government Area of the state.
Current matters gathered that the driver of the vehicle and the technician who installed the CNG kits had gone to the gas station for testing when the explosion occurred causing various degrees of injury to three persons including workers at the filling station.
The CNG is President Tinubu’s initiative which aims to reduce the cost of petrol and transportation and make CNG a cheaper and cleaner alternative to diesel and petrol..
The Nigerian government has recommended the conversion of petrol cars to Compressed Natural Gas (CNG):
Consequently,the government has distributed CNG conversion kits nationwide, with one million kits available for free for commercial vehicles and reasonable discounts for private vehicles.
The government also introduced an app to help people convert their vehicles to CNG, which allows users to:
find nearby conversion centers
It aims to convert one million petrol vehicles to CNG by 2027.
