In line with the Federal Civil Service Strategy and Implementation Plan 2021- 2025 (FCSSIP 25), introduced by the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation to drive civil service reforms, the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Mr Wale Edun, has launched the Performance Management System (PMS).
The System launched on Thursday is aimed at enhancing the overall efficiency of the staff with a view to ensuring proper management of the nation’s finances in an open, transparent, accountable and efficient manner that delivers on the country’s development priorities.
Speaking during the launch of the PMS, the Minister stated that the implementation of the Performance Management System in Nigeria is crucial for achieving the nation’s development goals.
He noted that the Public Service plays a vital role in the realization of the policy objectives of government and that an effective PMS is essential for boosting productivity and service delivery
Mr Edun explained that the institutionalization of performance management is critical for improved productivity and service delivery within the civil service.
To further embed this culture, Mr Edun declared every Thursday henceforth to be observed as Performance Management System Day in the Finance Ministry by all the staff.
While commending the Office of the Head of the Civil Service of the Federation for the doggedness in bringing up innovative ideas and ensuring the implementation of policies and initiatives aimed at transforming Nigeria’s Public Service in line with the contemporary global realities, the Minister
encouraged staff to prioritize performance in their daily work, emphasizing teamwork and continuous striving for excellence.
“As public servants, we have a vital role in serving the nation at the highest level. Let us embrace this culture of excellence and make Nigeria proud. We should imbibe the culture of efficiency, productivity, Incorruptible and be Citizen-Centred”, Edun stated.
In her opening remarks, the Permanent Secretary Federal Ministry of Finance Mrs Lydia Shehu Jafiya,
emphasized the importance of the PMS in aligning the Ministry’s goals with the FCSSIP 25.
“Today marks a significant milestone in our journey towards excellence. The Performance Management System will enable us to track progress, identify areas for improvement, and make informed decisions”, the Permanent Secretary noted.
Mrs Jafiya outlined
Key Features of the PMS to include Regular Performance Evaluations: Staff will receive regular feedback and evaluations to identify areas for improvement;
Goal Setting: Clear goals and objectives will be set for each department and staff member;
Performance-Based Promotion: Promotions will be based on performance, ensuring that deserving staff are recognized and rewarded.
With the launch of the Performance Management System, the Federal Ministry of Finance has demonstrated its commitment to efficient service delivery with a view to ensuring the realization of the country’s development priorities geared towards revitalizing the economy in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of the President Bola Ahmed Tinubu-led Administration
