An Assistant Superintendent of Police ASP was Saturday morning killed following arguments with irate commercial motorcyclist’s popularly called Okada riders.
The deceased officer was said to have led a team of officers in response to a distress call in relation to an accident involving a truck and a motorcycle that led to the death of the rider around the Agege area of Lagos.
But when they arrived at the scene to evacuate the truck, the okada riders prevented the police saying they wanted to set the truck ablaze.
” Upon reaching the scene, the team met a large crowd of motorcyle riders. While attempting to evacuate the truck, the officers were attacked by the riders who insisted on torching the vehicle. One ASP,46 years old, sustained a fatal head injury and died on the spot, while the truck driver managed to escape “Lagos Police Spokesman, Benjamin Hundeyin said in a statement on Saturday.
