Abductors of Emeason Chima,a senior official of the Federal Road Safety Corps FRSC are demanding the sum of N50 million naira to release the victim.
Chima,who was attached to RSA 211, Ugbokolo unit of the agency was kidnapped by gunmen on Saturday while he was driving around Maduka University on Nsukka- Enugu road in Enugu State.
Chima was said to be alone in his car when the gunmen attacked and whisked him away.
Further information indicates that the gunmen – using the officer’s phone are -demanding for a ransom of N50 million.
Kidnapping in the South East has escalated since 2021 with the release of nearly 2000 inmates by gunmen in Owerri reportedly linked to the Indigenous People of Biafra IPOB,a separatist movement and Eastern Security Network ESN.
The gunmen compel a sit – at home order of residents at will which has hampered the socio – economic development of the region.
Efforts by the various governments in the states and law enforcement agencies to stop the obnoxious trends in the region have yielded very little effort as the gunmen in retaliation of military raids,turn their anger on the locals by kidnapping and killing their victims.
With challenging infrastructure blazed by poor road network inadequate health and education facilities Youth unemployment,it is uncertain when abductions and killing which have become the new face of the South East will end.
