The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission,EFCC has invited Wahab and Raheem Okoya, sons of Nigerian businessman, Chief Razaq Okoya, for interrogation over alleged naira abuse.
According to a statement on Saturday by Michael Wetkas, Acting Director EFCC , Lagos Directorate, the Okoya brothers have been directed to report to the Head, Special Operations Team at the commission’s office at 15A Awolowo Road at 10 am on Monday, January 13,2025 .
The EFCC invited Subomi and Wahab following the spread of a video which captured the sons of the billionaire businessman allegedly spraying and throwing in the air,bundles of the highest denomination of naira notes”in a. Promotional clip for their brother,Raheem’s new song titled ” Credit Alert”A policeman at the scene of the alleged abuse of the currency was picked and detained. The Nigerian Police Force took to X Thursday saying ” The policeman captured in the recent viral video shared by the sons of the Lagos businessman,Chief Okoya, where they were abusing the naira,has been identified and detained for disciplinary action.The involvement of the policeman has been condemned,as it’s unethical,We will always strive hard to uphold the sanctity, credibility, and core values of the police” This however,raised questions why the Okoya siblings were not arrested.
Before the invite for questioning ,one of Okoya’s sons, Raheem issued a public apology to Nigerians via his X account,
He wrote “To the Nigerian people, my actions were not intended to cause any trouble or harm. My intentions were pure and naive. I ask for your forgiveness and support as I had no intention of raising such an alarm. I wasn’t fully aware of the consequences of my action.”
