Suspected Internet fraudsters, known as Yahoo boys, have shot dead an operative of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) .in the Onitsha area of Anambra State.
It was gathered that another operative of the commission was critically injured in the incident that happened on Friday morning.
The officers were said to have travelled from Enugu on a mission to apprehend a group of suspected cybercriminals when they encountered deadly violence .
According to the Punch,the deceased officer, identified as an assistant superintendent, had recently completed a promotional examination.
Confirming the incident, the Anambra State Police Command spokesperson, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, stated that investigations were underway.
“Investigation into the sad incident is ongoing. The suspect is in custody, and the firearm has been recovered. Further details shall be communicated, please,” Ikenga said.
