The Sultan of Sokoto,Alhaji Mohammed Sa’ad Abubakar has thrown his weight behind clamour for the establishment of Sharia Courts in Nigeria’s South West even as Governors of those states kick against such thoughts and operations.
Just two days ago, the Governor of Ogun state, Dapo Abiodun gave a stern warning to those pushing for the establishment of Sharia law in his state
He said ” No Sharia Court Is authorised to operate within Ogun State. The only courts empowered to adjudicate disputes in the state are those established by the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria or by State laws, including Magistrates ‘ Courts,High Court, Customary Courts, Customary Court of Appeal, Federal High Court, National Industrial Court,Court of Appeal, and Supreme Court”
But the Sultan ,who is also the head of Nigeria Islamic Affairs disapproves of the resistance to the launch of Sharia Court in the South West.
In a statement on Thursday via X, Sultan Abubakar described the stiff objection to a Sharia Court in the region and the denial of female students to wear the Hijab despite a Supreme Court judgement as a calculated attempt by the political elites to deny Moslems their right and prevent them from practicing their faith.
