The Management of Nnamdi Azikiwe University,UNIZIK Awka, Anambra State, have expelled Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious, a 300-level student in the Department of History and International Studies, for assaulting a lecturer, Dr. Chukwudi Michael Okoye, from the Department of Theatre and Film Studies.
According to a letter containing the official expulsion dated February 13, 2025, and signed by the Acting Registrar, Mr. Victor I. Modebelu, the university stated that the decision followed the recommendation of the Students Disciplinary Committee (SDC), which found Precious guilty of gross misconduct and a violation of Regulation 4 of the institution’s Students Disciplinary Regulations (SDR).
In a statement issued on February 14, 2025, the Acting Head of Information, Public Relations, and Protocol, Njelita Louis O., said those involved in the act were given fair hearing but that the committee found Chiamaka ‘s action as that of gross misconduct adding that the Vice Chancellor,Prof. Joseph l.Ichebelu has approved her expulsion from the school .
“The actors involved were given a fair hearing by the Students Disciplinary Committee. After a thorough review, the act committed by Goddy-Mbakwe Chimamaka Precious was deemed gross misconduct and a violation of Nnamdi Azikiwe University Students Disciplinary Regulations, particularly Regulation 4 (SDR),”
“She is required to vacate the University premises immediately and return all University property in her possession,” the statement read.
Chiamaka ‘s journey to expulsion reportedly began when she physically assaulted Dr Okoye in a video that surfaced online over his interruption of a TikTok video she was recording on campus.
The incident sparked public outrage with fellow students calling for corresponding discipline.
