The Coalition of Opposition Lawmakers has said that Governor Siminilayi Fubara will continue to drive governance in Rivers State despite Friday’s ruling of the Supreme Court affirming legitimacy on the pro – Wike lawmakers of the Rivers State House of Assembly led by Martin Amaewhule .
Spokesman of the Coalition,Rep. Ikenga Ugochinyere said this shortly after the Supreme Court judgement reinstating the lawmakers and upholding an earlier judgement barring the Central Bank of Nigeria CBN from releasing allocations to the state.
Ugochinyere, who represents Ideato Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives said it is not yet over for the 27 lawmakers as a case of their defection from the Peoples Democratic Party PDP to the All Progressives Congress APC was pending at the Appeal Court.
The federal lawmaker who also expressed surprise at the Supreme Court judgement barring the CBN from releasing allocations to Rivers State said the decision of the Apex court is capable of inflicting injury on the people of the state.
” It is indeed surprising that the Supreme Court faulted the Abuja Division of the Court of Appeal for vacating the initial order that stopped the release of funds to Rivers State from the consolidated revenue on the pretext that Governor Siminilayi Fubara did not re- present the budget the 2024 Appropriation Bill before the Hon. Amaewhule- led sacked faction of the Rivers State House of Assembly.
“Nothwithstanfing,Gov. Fubara will continue to drive the wheel of governance in Rivers State until the case on legality of decampment is decided at the Supreme Court.
“For emphasis, the case challenging the illegality of the pro Wike decampment is being heard at the Appeal Court and we are surprised that the Supreme Court would confer legitimacy on lawmakers whose decampment is still a subject of litigation.
“To power drunk Wike group, the sacked 27 lawmakers remain removed having desecrated the Constitution and decamped from a peaceful PDP to rancorous APC . They should not celebrate , it’s not yet Uhuru ” He said.
