
President Bola Tinubu has declared a State of Emergency in Rivers State for six months, a day after the House of Assembly loyal to Nyesom Wike alleged gross misconduct against Governor Siminilayi Fubara.
Announcing the declaration, on Tuesday,March 18,2025.Tinubu said in view of security threats occasioned by the blowing up oil facilities,It has become necessary to invoke
Section 305 of the 1999 constitution to declare a State of Emergency in Rivers state. By this, the governor, his deputy and the Assembly have been suspended for six months.
The President has appointed a retired Navy Chief, Ibok Ekwe Ibas as the administrator of Rivers State for a period of six months
The state of emergency declared a few minutes ago has been described as shocking and calous by many residents in the state.
A trader who preferred unnamed said at last, the president has shown his true self .
” This thing he has done will bring more problems than good for not only Rivers State but the whole of Nigeria.
” Tinubu will allow a very peaceful man( Fubara )to be disgraced? It is even possible that forces loyal to Nyesom Wike blew up the Oil wells to give the Fubara government a bad name.
” Tinubu,may your days be rough,He said.
In the meantime,there is tension in the land, Port Harcourt the state capital is looking uneasily calm and no one knows what will happen next.
