General Maharazu Tsiga, a retired Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), has been released from captivity after being held by kidnappers for 56 days.
Tsiga was abducted from his residence in Tsiga village, Bakori Local Government Area of Katsina State, on February 6th, 2025.
During the abduction, two people were injured, and one of the gunmen was mistakenly shot dead by a member of his gang.
The kidnappers, led by notorious bandit kingpin Babaro, had demanded N250 million for Tsiga’s release, but it’s unclear if any ransom was paid.
According to reports, the kidnappers later reduced their demand to N50 million.
However, another source suggests that the family paid nearly N180 million, which is three times the reduced amount.
Tsiga was released on Wednesday, April 2, 2025, and is reportedly receiving medical attention at an undisclosed hospital for security reasons.
A family member confirmed that Tsiga is in good condition, while a senior military source also verified his release.
