
As part of ongoing activities leading up to the 2025 World Press Freedom Day (WPFD), the Planning Committee of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Rivers State Council, on Thursday, 24 April 2025, paid an advocacy visit to the Permanent Secretary of the Rivers State Ministry of Information and Communications, Mr Frank Emmanuel Ndah.
Receiving the delegation, Mr Ndah commended the media for its indispensable role in shaping public opinion and fostering social development.
He acknowledged the media as a pillar of democracy and a powerful tool in driving societal progress.
Expressing strong support for the NUJ’s efforts, the Permanent Secretary pledged the Ministry’s readiness to actively participate in the lineup of events planned by the Rivers State Council of the NUJ to commemorate this year’s World Press Freedom Day, themed: “ Reporting in the Brave New World: The Impact of Artificial Intelligence on Press Freedom and the Media.”
Mr Ndah also used the opportunity to call for peace and unity in Rivers State, stressing the need for media Practitioners to continually promote messages that foster harmony and social cohesion.
Chairman of the Planning Committee, Pastor Paul Damgbor, expressed appreciation for the Ministry’s collaboration and reiterated the Committee’s commitment to delivering a meaningful and inclusive celebration that reflects the evolving landscape of journalism and media freedom.
The visit is one in a series of advocacy engagements designed to mobilize Stakeholders ahead of World Press Freedom Day, which will feature a range of events, including a Freedom Walk and a Symposium.
