As part of efforts to strengthen Civil-Military Cooperation (CIMIC), the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lieutenant General OO Oluyede, has inaugurated a series of special intervention projects aimed at revitalizing the Langtang General Hospital in Plateau State.
The commissioning ceremony, held on Friday, April 25, 2025, attracted a wide spectrum of attendees, including government officials, military veterans, serving senior officers, traditional leaders, and numerous community members, all of whom gathered to witness the unveiling of facilities designed to bolster healthcare delivery in the region.

3 Division Nigerian Army, Lt. Col Aliyu Danja, said the execution of the project was overseen by Major General ND Shagaya, who emphasized the importance of the initiative in benefiting the local community and reinforcing the bond between the Nigerian Army and the Langtang populace.
“This project is not just about improving infrastructure; it’s about fostering a partnership that will enhance health services and community welfare,” General Shagaya stated during his welcome address.
He expressed gratitude to the COAS for providing the necessary resources and urged the hospital staff to ensure proper maintenance of the new facilities to maximize their utility.
The COAS, represented by Major General EF Oyinlola, the General Officer Commanding and Commander of Operation SAFE HAVEN, described the project as a testament to the Nigerian Army’s commitment to peace and security in Plateau State.
“Our mission is rooted in trust and collaboration, aimed at ensuring the well-being of the communities we serve,” Major General Oyinlola noted.
He reassured attendees that these projects were not politically motivated but were instead focused on enhancing civil-military relations and operational effectiveness.
Major General Oyinlola commended both Major General Shagaya and the project contractors for their exceptional work, adhering to the high standards set by the Nigerian Army.
He called on the community to continue its support for the Army and other security agencies, recognizing their role in maintaining peaceful coexistence among the diverse ethnic groups of the region. He also acknowledged the unwavering support from the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, Bola Ahmed Tinubu, and Governor of Plateau State, Mr Caleb Mutfwang, for their continuous backing of the Army’s initiatives.
In a message to the occasion, Major General GU Chibuisi, the Chief of Civil-Military Affairs, underscored the importance of collaborative efforts between the Army and the community.
Represented by the Director of Civil-Military Affairs, Major General Fadairo, he remarked, “This CIMIC project is a strategic initiative aimed at reinforcing public support, fostering cooperation, and sustaining harmony between the Army and civil society.”
He urged the community to take ownership of the newly remodeled facilities and to prioritize their maintenance for lasting benefits.
In a show of solidarity, Mr. Gayi Anthony Gayi, Permanent Secretary of the Plateau State Ministry of Health, expressed appreciation for the Army’s contributions to the state’s healthcare sector. He assured of the state government’s continued support for the Nigerian Army and other security bodies.
The event also featured speeches from the Executive Chairman of Langtang North Government and the Chief Medical Director of Langtang General Hospital, both of whom praised Major General Shagaya for his commitment to improving his hometown and reaffirmed their dedication to maintaining the new facilities for long-term use.
The CIMIC project at Langtang General Hospital involved numerous enhancements, including the replacement of old roofing materials with durable aluminum sheets, installation of modern hospital beds, improved ventilation through new casement windows, provision of mattresses for patient comfort, upgraded sanitation facilities, and the installation of a 3.2KV solar inverter system to ensure consistent power supply. These enhancements are expected to significantly elevate the quality of healthcare services in the Langtang region.
Our Correspondent reports that some highlights of the occasion include cultural displays, the unveiling of a commissioning plaque, presentation of souvenirs, and group photographs fostering community spirit and celebrating the partnership between the Nigerian Army and the Langtang community.
