Niger State Government said it has evacuated “citizens “of the state studying at the University of Jos following wanton killing and destruction of properties in parts of Plateau State.
The development comes few days after hoodlums in Jos North attacked Muslim travellers on their way to Bauchi to perform a religious programme held by Islamic cleric Sheik Dahiru Usman Bauchi.
In a statement on Friday in Minna issued by Mary Noel Berje,Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, said the evacuation became neccessary to ensure the safety of the students.
According to her, ” worried about the wellbeing of her citizens and for them not to be left stranded as well as become victims of circumstances, the state government through the Commissioners for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs as well as Tertiary Education, Science and Technology, made arrangements for vehicles and security personnel to ensure safe evacuation and, return of the students”
