Legendary Nigerian Musician, Sir Victor Uwaifo popular with his hit track” Guitar Boy has passed away.
Uwaifo reportedly succumbed to the cold hands of death on Saturday after battling with an undisclosed ailment
Uwaifo celebrated his 80th birthday in March and granted interview to media houses.
Nigerians have rolled out condolences to the family and the country describing the personality of the deceased .
President Muhammadu Buhari in his condolence message signed by spokesman,Femi Adesina,said Sir Victor Uwaifo “left a legacy of successes in many areas of life, including academia and administration.
An editor,Dada Ahmed described the death of Uwaifo as the fall of an Iroko tree in the entertainment industry.
” An Iroko tree in entertainment industry in Nigeria and beyond has fallen,
” May Almighty Good grant him eternal rest and his family and country at large, the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss”
He said
Uwaifo,’s speciality which was highlife genre resonated beyond the shores of Nigeria earning him fame and his tracks Guitar Boy and Joromi were unmatched.
For his contribution to the entertainment industry and recognition to his state and country,he was appointed commissioner for Arts, Culture and Tourism by the Edo State Government. He was the first to be appointed to that position. He was also the first musician to be conferred with a National Merit Award,-Member of the Order of the Niger ( MON) .
