A Coalition of Registered Humanitarian Organisations in Nigeria has concluded plans to organise an international Conference on the West Africa Humanitarian Refugees Settlements in Abuja.
A statement to newsmen by the Director, Projects and Programmes, Ambassador Success Ikponmwosa, says that the two day conference, scheduled to take place on the 11th to 12th September will have over 40 high power delegations from the United States and Haiti as participants.
It said the conference is a follow up to the success of the participation in the 2020 Lam Larsen Iconiq Impact Award, which is on the theme ‘INNOVATIVE IMPROVEMENT OF WEST AFRICA LARGEST REFUGEES SETTLEMENT’.
According to the statement, it is aimed at providing an innovative, functional, sustainable and economically viable model of settlements for refugees in Nigeria and other multi-layer conflicts regions in the West African Sub-region.
The statement said, it is also premised on the need to unveil a most eco-friendly and indigenous solutions that would improve the livelihood and resilience of all refugees in West Africa.
It said that the conference is put together by coalition of registered Humanitarian organisations committed to the improvement of the wellbeing of refugees in Nigeria, which include, Righteous Generation and Glorious Assembly of God, Elites West Africa, Urban Shelter and Global Landscape, Wooksbrothers Nig. Ltd, Vision Nig. Ltd and Refuge of Hope.
“This annual multidimensional humanitarian event appraises institutions, programmes, share opportunities and possible recommendations to all stakeholders, especially those working to improve the conditions of refugees and other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs), thereby providing an open access prospects to state and non-state actors in the humanitarian sector to share values through interactions, discussions, networking, peer learning and presentations”
The statement added that there will be breakout sessions to focus on the different aspect of the entire solutions being proposed for viable economic innovative settlements.
“Lastly, the conference shall equally presents a platform to unveil the programmes and projects outline for Cameroonian refugees in parts of Nigeria such as Ogoja, Akampa, Benue as well as other Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) camps in the North – East of Nigeria, while creating also a podium for international delegates presentations on leveraging opportunities for humanitarian actors” it concluded.
