The Rotary of Port Harcourt Ceapoly, Top Health and Rotary club of Port Harcourt Garden City have jointly donated some educational text books to the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic Library.
The Clubs Presidents during the donation said the project was carried out to boost and encourage reading culture among the students. They said its part of Rotary international’s activities to commemorate this year’s World Literacy Day.
The Rotary District 9141 Assistant Governor Mudiaga Iyomi while commissioning the books for further use, at the Institution’s library, said the project is in line with one of the Rotary areas of focus: Basic Education and Literacy. He said ” Enhancing literacy skills is critical in Rotary’s pursuit of reducing poverty, improving health, and promoting peace. In fact, if all students in low-income countries left school with basic reading skills, it would result in a significant cut in global poverty rates.”
On her part, President of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Garden City Precious Werner Ovie-Oyubu after reading a book to some students who excitedly witnessed the event, to the students that the “Read-a-book project jointly organized by the clubs is meant to encourage reading culture among students, ” reading is an integral part of your studies in this institution. Do not trust in your “horses and chariots, they will fail you. Make use of the books in the library and improve on yourselves. Rotary is always here to help you and encourage you improve on yourselves through our capacity projects,” she said.
On her on part, President of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Ceapoly, Dr Jummai Madume who is also a lecturer at the Captain Elechi Amadi Polytechnic said the library will always be open to the students to utilize.
President of the Rotary club of Port Harcourt Top Health Surveyor John Uyi Kikpoye assured the school authorities and students that Rotary will alwaya deliver quality, and human capacity projects that will improve the livelihood of her host communities.
The Institution’s Liberian expressed joy that apart from the students, both lecturers will benefit from the boosted library by Rotary, for the use of their research work. He said the library will encourage more research work by students and lecturers.
