In a bid to articulate a new direction in the Constitution that is people driven and erase obsolete sections, a group of 30 Nigerians have converged in Abuja to form a new political movement.
The Movement ‘National Coalition Front’ seeks to mobilize popular action for political and constitutional reforms that would address the economic and social well being of Nigerians,as well as analysing and recreating obnoxious sections of the electoral law which provides a window for opportunists to subvert the will of the electorate.
“The new movement shall also without delay mobilise for the economic wellbeing and prosperity of all Nigerians by demanding and ensuring that Chapter 2 of the present Constitution which is ‘Fundamental Objectives & Directive Principle of State Policy’ becomes justicable once and for all, while also mounting an articulate and vigorous campaign to deconstruct and reconstruct obnoxious election laws which have provided leeway for opportunists in the corridor of power to subvert the will of the electorate making voting irrelevant in determining who actually becomes elected in Nigeria.
Members of the NCF include Oby Ezekwesili, Garba Na”abba,Olisa Agbakoba, Femi Falana,Chidi Odinkalu,Shehu Sani, Obadiah Mailafia,Col Abubakar Umar (rtd), Nkoyo Toyo,Tanko Yinusa,Isa Aremu,Jibo Ibrahim,Yabangi Sanni,Remi Sonaiya, Shettima Yerima,Funke Awolowo,Ogbeni Lsnre and Peter Ameh.
The group’s position is contained in a communique made public on Wednesday at its Secretariat in Abuja.
They expressed sadness that the National Political Leadership has failed to protect Nigerians from the activities of terrorists,bandits and armed robbers.
