A Socio Cultural group, Fugar Progressive Union, FPU, has called on Edo State government to urgently address issues of dearth of teachers and dilapidated infrastructure in Fugar Mixed Secondary School.
The National President, FPU, Barrister Richard Anetekhai, made the appeal while handing over a block of renovated school building and furniture to the Principal of the School, Mr Audu James, in Fugar, Etsako Central Local Government headquarters.
“Since the inception of the school, Fugarians have had cause to intervene individually and collectively by providing needed school infrastructure, education aids and other necessities to enhance teaching and learning” he noted.

Barrister Anetekhai said, “under the present leadership of FPU, Fugarians have again come together to intervene in the Fugar Mixed Secondary School by engaging the services of five teachers, refurbished school tables and chairs for about 350 students and remodelled a building with six classrooms, six offices and four toilets.
” Despite the various interventions by Fugarians, however, there is dire need for the Edo state government to complement these efforts by providing teachers and assist with other infrastructure needed by the School.”
Barrister Anetekhai urged the school Management to device means of effective maintenance and for the students to exercise care and discipline in the usage so as to preserve the facilities.

“As we hand over the building and furniture to the school authorities, it is our wish that the students, teachers and other staff will benefit from the improved learning, teaching and working environment”.
The FPU National President thanked the traditional rulers, Elders and all Fugarians for their contribution and support towards ensuring a better community.
In his remark, Mr Audu James, commended the FPU for being a major source of infrastructural and manpower survival for decades, adding that the initiatives are well appreciated.
The Principal appealed to the FPU like Oliver Twist, to look into the issue of indigent students, who are intelligent, but for their poor financial background are handicapped.
Goodwill messages were received from the Edo State government, traditional rulers and other dignitaries.

The high point of the occasion was the presentation of cheques and allowances to some volunteer teachers being paid by the Fugar Progressive Union.
Our Correspondent reports that the building, a block of six classrooms was renovated to UNESCO standard with state of the art infrastructural materials.
