A non governmental Organization called the Divine Empowerment Gospel Ministry has donated over one thousand exercise books, and writing materials to three public schools in Rivers State. The donation is part of the group’s effort to encourage basic education in the state.
Founder of the Organization, Lucky Omatseye while donating the writing materials to pupils of the Community Primary School Omuigwe, community primary school, Rumuosi and community state school one Aluu, said the gesture is to assist the less privileged homes who can’t afford some basic education materials for their wards in the public schools. “We visited some public schools in Port Harcourt, as part of our vision to empower humanity for greater manifestation. Over one thousand pupils were given free exercise books, pens, pencils and other writing materials. The essence also is for Kingdom promotion and advancement. This is also to assist the less privileged to encourage them in their pursuit for better education. We are sure this gesture will give confidence and courage to the parents not to give up in providing basic education for their children”.
Omatseye frowns that the state government’s policy on free basic education is not reflecting in public schools.
He called on the state government to review its policy on free basic education in the state. “I want to call on the government to ensure that the free basic education promised to these children are implemented. A situation where no books or writing materials are provided for this course, is not a true reflection of what the free education ought to be”.
On his part, principal of the schools expressed joy over the donations. They said the books will boost the morale of the pupils to learn. ” We are elated over the gesture, it will boost the morale of the pupils to take their studies seriously. Some of these pupils who come to school without books will now smile home with books and writing materials! We are really grateful for the smiles this gesture has put on the face of these children “.
