Activities to mark the end of year for members of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors Valuers have begun with a Charity Walk from the Isaac Boro Park to the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital.
Members of the NIESV ended the Charity walk with a visit to patients in over six wards in the Hospital facility with cash gifts and toiletries.
Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors Valuers Hamilton Odum during the donations said the gesture was to take some pinch of pain off the very less privileged, in the spirit of the Christmas season.
“ We felt there was need to reach out to the less privileged in the spirit of the Christmas season. Of course, no end of year activity is complete without a Charity element. NIESV decided to reach out to indigent patients here at the BMH to bring succor to them in terms of paying off their hospital bills and other needs. Some have been here because they can’t pay their bills after they have been discharged. We are glad we were able to touch a number of lives today”, Hamilton said.
Deputy Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Dr Alali Dan-Jumbo said the gesture by NIESV will also bring relief to management of the Hospital from incurring bills of some less privileged patients.
Dr Alali Dan-Jumbo said the Hospital will continue to identify with groups who mean well for its patients while calling on other well meaning organization and groups to emulate the gesture of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers in touching lives.
“ It’s awesome reaching out to patents at these times. They are in a position to get all the help they can get. NIESV has been able to affect over sixty needy patients in this facility with their donations of cash and gifts. The management of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital appreciates them. It’s a relief on our part also. We enjoined all other groups to emulate the NIESV to impact positively on the less privileged in the society,” DR Jumbo said.
On measures taken against the Covid-19 new Variant Omicron in the facility, Deputy Chief Medical Director of the Rivers State University Teaching Hospital Dr Alali Dan-Jumbo said the facility has re-enforced the observance of safety measures in the facility. He also encouraged members of the public to visit the different centers made available by the state government to be vaccinated against the deadly virus.
He said “of course it’s part of our protocol to ask patients and visiting families to always put on their face masks especially around the hospital facility: this is to reinforce what we have been doing. We have our team here involved in management of any such cases. We are on top of our game here and we assure you are ready for any emergencies. We also advise people to get vaccinated, this cannot be over emphasized. Get vaccinated”.
On his part, the Chairman End of Year Committee and Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers Rivers State Branch, Esv Nwokoma Nkwankwo said the NIESV will continue to reach out and give back to the society.
Esv Nwokoma Nkwankwo while assuring that the NIESV will continue to carry out activities that will change for good the lives of its host communities, commended members of the Institution for giving their Time and Treasure to the success of the activity.
