Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike has expressed regret over the dilapidated state of the Chokocho-Igbodo Road. In Etche Local Government Area of the state
Wike who made this known on Monday during the flag- off of the road project berated the federal government for abandoning its responsibility of fixing federal roads in the state adding that his government will not fold its hands and watch the people suffer on account of neglect of key infrastructures such as the Etche road.
The governor said the 27 kilometer road project will be delivered in 12 months at the cost of about N14bn
Flagging off the project, the Governor of Oyo state Seyi Makinde described Rivers State as Infrastructure hub and” economic corridor” under the governor.
The Chokocho-Igbodo road which links Rivers State to Imo,Abia and the rest of the country, had been abandoned with clusters of portholes for over a decade making the road prone to accidents and offering a hotspot for criminal activities in the area.
The flag- off witnessed an assemblage of Rivers people particularly those from the Etche Ethnic Nationality including traditional rulers prominent among them were the Onyi – Ishi- Etche,Eze E.N.B, Opurum, HRM. Eze Onyekachi Amaonwu, Eze Ebere Ugo the 9th and HRM.Eze Dr S N Amaechi Onyi-,Ishi- Agwuru,Igbo clan.
Also at the flag- off were Leader of the PDP in the LGA,Prince Emma Anyanwu, former member of the House of Representatives, Prince Ogbonna Nwuke, chairman of the council,Mr Obinna Anyanwu and party chairman,Mr John Otamiri.
The people, cutting across political divide were jubilant and thanked the governor for the kind gesture.
