The Nigerian Army has announced the killing of a dreaded member of the Eastern Security Network, the military wing of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra.( IPOB).
Ejike and three others were gunned down on Wednesday by troops around a filling station at Ihiala,an Anambra town.
The Director,Army Public Relations, Brigadier- General Onyema Nwachukwu who made the announcement in a statement said ‘ troops of the NA launched out to the location to restore normalcy” following a distress call that Ejike and some of his colleagues were enforcing a sit- at- home order there.
” On intercepting the dissidents,a fight ensued and the gallant troops neutralised their leader ,Ezike and three others’
The Army Spokesman said items recovered are a motorcycle,two pump action double barrel guns,12 live cartridges and substances suspected to be cannabis
He also announced that one of the combat vehicles carrying troops was involved in an accident during the operation killing an officer and a soldier.
” Sadly one combat vehicle conveying troops was involved in an accident during the operation following a technical fault.
” One gallant officer and a soldier paid the supreme price in the accident, while two sustained injuries.The injured are currently responding to treatment at a military hospital” he said.
