The Nigerian Labour Congress has warned that the current scarcity of petroleum products which appears not to go away might lead to revolution against the government.
In a statement on Friday,NLC President, Ayuba Wabba said there is an extent to which Nigerians can endure the hardship occasioned by the scarcity of petroleum products and exorbitant fares in the country.
Wabba noted with pain and sadness the acute scarcity of petroleum products at filling stations across the country saying” there is a limit the people can stomach prevailing disruptions caused by the scarcity especially increased fares and associated dislocations in Land, air,rail and water transportation and indeed hiccups in the manufacturing sector are linked to the current scarcity of petroleum products in the country
According to the NLC President, the situation where motorists and other users of petroleum products queue for long hours at filling stations is disheartening describing it as ” a daylight premiere of unending episodes of nightmares “
The Labour leader observed that the scarcity of petroleum products has dealt a devastating blow on businesses in the country thereby choking the unemployment and security situation in the country.
” In most part of Nigeria, Manufacturing has ground to a halt. The current haemorrhage induced by the prevailing scarcity of petroleum products has very grave concomitant effects on the already parlous unemployment and security situation in our country
” The persisting scarcity of petroleum products has unleashed a Tsunami of very dire economic realities such as exorbitant airfare, cancellation of scheduled flights, destruction of thousands of automobile engine by adulterated fuel and wastage of productive hours. In short, today’s reality screams” Crisis Foretold”
He urged the Federal Government to immediately do away with deregulation seeing that it is not working but” has proved to be a mere moniker for the incessant increase in the price of petrol and fix our local Refineries! Build new Refineries!! Local Refining is the answer “he said.
