The number of deaths in the fire incident that occurred in an illegal bunkery site at Ohaji Egbema in Imo State has climbed to 110.
The Head of Operations, National Emergency Management Agency ( NEMA),Mr Ifeanyi Nnaji said the latest victim of the fire was a pregnant woman whose belly bust exposing the foetus.
According to him, the victims of the fire were from different parts of the country and were burnt without recognition.
He added that their bodies are decomposing and they would be given mass burial as soon as the Commissioner of Petroleum and Environment arrives.
” We are awaiting the arrival of the Commissioner of Petroleum and Environment to perform mass burial because their bodies are decomposing.
The fire was caused by illegal bunkering activities at a location border between Oguzi in Ogba) Egbema/ Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State and Abeji in Ohaji Egbema Local Government Area of Imo State.
The incident which happened in the early hours of Saturday 23rd April,2022, led to the death of men, women and children.
