No fewer than forty three persons including soldiers lost their lives on Thursday morning when gunmen suspected to be bandits attacked a mining site in Shiroro Local Government Area of Niger State.
The corpses of thirty seven soldiers were reportedly recovered by residents in the bush although the state government’s eport indicated that the death toll has not been ascertained.
The attackers were said to have kidnapped many Chinese Nationals along with other workers and injured several others.
The Commissioner for Internal Security and Humanitarian Affairs, Emmanuel Umar said the intervention of the soldiers led to the rescue of many people.
Umar said that four Chinese nationals and several other workers were abducted by the bandits adding that government has sent more security personnel to rescue the kidnapped victims.
