Deborah was accused of blasphemy by students of Moslem faith who allegedly connived with extremists and stoned her to death.
Touched by the tragic incident, the Port Harcourt based cleric relocated the family of the deceased student and showered them with uncommon gifts
He donated a mini estate containing 12 apartments and gave scholarships to Deborah’s siblings.
Conferring the award, IHRC Regional Head,Dr Friday Sani said the commission takes stock of every humanitarian act but has not witnessed the exceptional humanitarian act demonstrated by Chinyere.
He said the award was first of its kind he would witness since joining the commission and Chinyere was the first black man and individual that would receive the Global Gold Medal.
” I have an archive of every humanitarian act., and I know that the kind of humanitarian you have shown this time ,no black man has done such , that is why I see the award as well deserving of you.
“
Dr Sani also decorated the wife of the OPM leader for her support for her husband’s humanitarian gestures.
In his response, Chinyere thanked the commission for the recognition and said it would encourage him to do more.
