…. Security takes over Assembly Complex
The Bauchi House of Assembly complex has been sealed by security personnel following moves by aggrieved members to impeach the leadership of the house.
The development comes three days after 22 members passed a vote of no confidence on the leadership asking them to resign or face impeachment.
The aggrieved lawmakers cited dereliction of duty and incompetence of the house leadership as reason for their action.
Explaining the reason for the sealing of the Assembly complex, the Special Adviser to the Bauchi State Governor on State and National Assembly Liaison,,Sani Burra said the takeover by the security operatives was neccessary to forestall chaos.
He said some hoodlums had attempted to burn down the complex on Sunday night
According to him,on receipt of the information, he quickly on behalf of the government contacted the Commissioner of Police who responded immediately sending his men to the complex to avert a break down of law and order.
Burra further explained that the crisis is about the leadership of the house and not the executive. He said the 22 aggrieved lawmakers were told to hold their actions until the arrival of their colleagues from pilgrimage but that they are bent on electing a new leadership and” waiting to gain entrance into the chamber to carry out the procedure “
